2009 Foal Futurity

2009 BC Chapter Foal Futurity - RESULTS

September 3, Juniper Hill, Lake Country (Winfield)

The 2009 BC Chapter Foal Futurity was held in conjunction with the National Stallion Licensing Tour at Juniper Hill, following the Stallion Licensing.

A big thank you to those owners who brought out their beautiful foals to participate in this annual event held one in each province. Sires of these foals were nominated in 2008 by donating a breeding to the 2008 Stallion Service Auction. All foals of 2009 by the stallions listed below were eligible to compete. Successful bidders on the 2008 Stallion Service Auction receive a complimentary nomination for their foal as does the stallion owner for each breeding donated.

Champion of the 2009 BC Foal Futurity was a very elegant filly by the Oldenburg stallion Sagnol out of the Canadian Warmblood mare Phedra, by Pik Kaiser.

Saphira (pictured at left), owned and bred by Andre Sigmond of Armstrong was the oldest foal of the 6 entered. She scored a strong 8.25 with her good type and conformation.

Andre was also the breeder of Saphira's dam, Phedra, who scored premium score of 7.33 from the national team. Phedra's dam is the approved TB mare, Satin Shuffle. Congratulations!

Second place was awarded to another Sagnol filly, this time the youngest presented who showed very strong Swing & Elasticity with amazing shoulder freedom. Fritz von Blotnitz declared, 'her head is a 10'. Saxony, is out of Delphi, by Deutschmeister.

Owners/breeders, Bill & Lynn Blake of Kamloops pictured at left, are strong supporters of the association and also had great success for the 2nd year in a row in the Canadian Performance Futurity with their Hunter entry.

In 3rd place was the Tramino colt Tolkein, out of Guinevere by Gargoyle owned and bred by Michelle Curcio of Red Deer, AB and shown by her mother, Chris Curcio (at left) of Winfield. The team noted this was a strong colt with good conformation and type.

Of Tolkein's dam, Fritz von Blotnitz commented to the team and owners that 'this is a beautiful warmblood mare of strong type'.

Interestingly, only 1.5 marks separated the top 3 foals.
