DON RICO was bred to be a dressage star.

Both his sire and dam-sire are dressage superstars: Both DON FREDERICO and HOHENSTEIN came second in their stallion testing, and both won the dressage portion with extremely high marks.

Rico’s dam St.Pr.St. Hoheit, daughter of top dressage stallion Hohenstein, went on to have 2 licensed and successful sons in California, Armani and Worthy Opponent.

Don Rico was born in Germany and imported to Canada by Hannover Imports. Although Rico has only limited exposure in the dressage ring, he has shown himself to be easy-going, willing and rideable, along with superb movement in all three gaits. With his imposing presence and exceptional movement Don Rico is very special.

Since 2005, when his first crop of foals were born, Rico has had several more youngsters born every year– big, correct, solid foals, inheriting their sire’s outstanding, ground-covering movement and friendly temperament. All future dressage stars, with athletic jumping ability!

Dec 2010 - Rico goes to Oakcrest Farm - Olympian Belinda Trussell's home. Belinda says of Don Rico, "He's gorgeous and he is wonderful to ride, soft, springy, so soft ... just beautiful. We have two of his babies here. And he throws his temperament which is unbelievable. The two babies are green and they're great, just great. You can hack them in the snow, super off the leg and nice mouths, nice connection."

In 2012, Rico's sire DON FREDERICO, who stands at Celle, is honoured with the coveted title "2012 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year" in Germany. Don Frederico is himself a son of the famous Donnerhall. (The 2012 German Olympic Dressage Team consisted of Donnerhall get, including a daughter of Don Frederico

In 2015, Don Rico competes in the dressage ring for the first time. Only being back in training since the previous fall, he wins his classes with scores in the high 60's and 70's. His behaviour on the show grounds is exceptional. He finishes the year with Second Place in Canada for the Cadora Year-end Awards at First Level.

His Get: his kids are starting to be well known. Some of the awards they have won include Canadian Training Level Champion (Diamanda), Ontario Second level Champion (Dark Velvet), Cadora National Champion Second Level (Dasahi), Cadora National Training Level, 2nd place (Dutchy). (Diamanda earned rave reviews from the Championship judges, an international FEI panel. She earned a top score of 79%, getting lots of 8’s, 9’s, and even a 10.) He has many more kids, as well as being successful in the dressage ring, others have found success in the hunter and jumper rings as well as eventing.

His get have won numerous National and local Awards. Here are some of them:
- 2012 Delgado becomes both Ontario and Canadian Champion in 2017 at Training Level with an Amateur rider
- 2011 daughter Diamanda was 2015 Canadian Champion at Training level with very high scores
- 2005 Dark Velvet Ontario Champion at Second level in 2014
- 2006 Dasahi First across Canada for the year-end Cadora awards at Second level in 2014
- 2008 Dutchy, 2011 Diamanda, 2012 Delgado were Young Horse of the Year in Ottawa in 2014, 2015, 2016.
