January, 2017 - Registrations update

The last list of Foundation animals was approved by the Ministry February 20th, 2015; and a new list was submitted February 2016. We have just received word from the department that the 2016 list will be processed shortly. That list includes all but a few foundation animals needed to clear the backlog of registrations and transfers pending. A final list will be submitted in early 2017 that will clear the remaining backlog and se the cessation of submission of lists.

Thank you all for your patience in these transition years, when many of you have experienced regrettably long wait times to receive registration papers and transfers. Our staff, volunteers, and staff at CLRC have been working hard to catch up on the backlog of work.

MORATORIUM ON LATE FEES - ended November 30, 2016

The Moratorium on the $75 late fees began June 1st, and ran until November 30th, 2016.  All paperwork and fees needed to have been received by CLRC by Wednesday, November 30th to take advantage of this offer.

For fees and forms go to: Application Forms. Contact the Office if you require assistance.

Canadian breeders... although the Moratorium on late Fees is now closed, if you count the USA as part of your market, get your horse/s registered now to avoid any disappointment when it comes to marketing! This will be important in selling horses into the U.S. market and is critical in ensuring that Canadian bred horses are properly identified and tracked throughout their life.

Changes requiring identification of competition horses prompted the CWHBA to institute this temporary Late Fee Moratorium to encourage registration of eligible horses not yet registered. Regardless of discipline, get your horse/s registered young, and early when paperwork and DNA are easy to complete!

Commencing July 1st 2015, all services provided by the CWHBA will be GST/HST added.

Until now no GST or HST has been levied on CWHBA services, but the CWHBA is taxed by our suppliers and providers. To reduce the burden of this tax and to allow a flow through to our members who can claim HST/GST refunds, the Board made the application to Revenue Canada and recently received our new Business Number that will appear on all invoices.

Depending on the member's place of residence the following rates will apply to all other services including, but not limited to, registrations, inspections, mare entries, stallion licensing and transfers. Please read and follow the directions on the appropriate forms.

  • 13% HST NB, NL & ON Residents,
  • 14% HST PEI Residents,
  • 15% HST NS Residents,
  • 5% GST AB, BC, MB, QC, SK, NT, NU, YT Residents.

This change will be an inconvenience to some, but was necessary to bring us in line with standard business practice in Canada. Your cooperation is appreciated. Thank you!
